Remembering My Highschool Physics Project

ATTENTION HIGHSCHOOL PEEPS!!! LISTEN AND LISTEN WELL!!! Hahahaha.

Remember our senior year in high school during the science fair? We had an exhibit at the GP Hall where projects from different science classes were being showcased. Well last night, I was watching "Attack of the Show" on Maxx (with one week delay here in the Philippines) and I was kind of surprised, and a bit overjoyed, (haha, sobrang natuwa lang) because suddenly they featured a segment with video and everything on "How-To-Make-A-Homemade-Hovercraft".

I was all "WOW" because I could still remember the time we, our group in highschool, were constructing this same homemade hovercraft at Daryl's house (Attention Joseph Daryl Locsin!!! hehe) using the same materials and the same concept for our Physics Project. But instead of using a leaf blower, we used a high-powered vacuum cleaner set in reverse. Ms. Evelyn Bamba was amazed by the project while Sir Jaime Ong was not as much thrilled (but then mahilig siya mang-asar, haha) and we were so happy because we got perfect grade. Remember people? Golden highs chool days. Haha.

During the exhibit, we allowed students to have a go at the hovercraft to try it out for themselves and feel the lightness and smoothness of the ride and the fun it brings. AND. And... I could still picture this scene in front of me, our very own school director, her academic higness herself, Mrs. Susan Abbot riding the hovercraft. Hahaha. That was fun. We were all scared shit because we had no insurance (hahaha) and we didn't know what to do if she fell off the platform. Sheeesh. But at least she enjoyed it... a lot.

For all those who are wondering what on Earth I'm blogging about, here's a video from youtube demonstrating the construction and operation of this homemade hovercraft. Enjoy.

How To Make A Homemade Hovercraft

Things you need:

plywood (not less than 1m l/w)
garbage plastic / plastic sheets
rolls of duct tape
electric drill and screws
a high-power vacuum cleaner or leaf blower
electric jigsaw or cutter

Instructions:

cut the plywood into a circular disk around 1m in diameter
cut a hole through the disk around 2 inches in diameter 1 foot from the center of the disk using either a jigsaw or a cutter/drill combination.
drill holes on one side of the disk (near the hole) to attach the cleaner or blower in place.

cut several sheets of plastic several inches wider than the disk.
(to be continued...)
